A tribute to Phil Lesh, founding member and bassist/vocalist for the Grateful Dead, who had a unique style of playing a six-string bass guitar. His career kicked off when he joined his friend Jerry Garcia in The Warlocks, which ultimately morphed into the Grateful Dead in the mid-1960's. Many consider Phil as an innovator on the bass. Phil wrote or co-wrote many of the Grateful Dead's songs throughout the years. He was inducted in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 as a member of the band. After the Grateful Dead disbanded, Phil continued his career in the band's offshoots; The Other Ones, The Dead, Furthur and Phil Lesh and Friends. Phil passed away on October 25, 2024. On this tribute episode, we're join by Phil's friends Bill Payne of Little Feat and Duane Betts - son of Dickey Betts of the Allman Brothers Band fame, who have played with Phil during his career.
